As our climate becomes more extreme, government organisations need to ensure their services, programs and assets can withstand new pressures. Biotext worked with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to convert a technical climate risk management process into a user-friendly format.
We structured information into clear, practical guidance that was linked to the underpinning technical information, relevant standards and best-practice processes. We established consistent and accurate terminology to support understanding, and advised on workflows to ensure the final content was reviewed and quality-assured by relevant experts.

Working with the Biotext team has been exceptional. [Their] expertise in strategic thinking, program management, and identifying key risks and opportunities—combined with skill and efficiency in translating complex concepts into clear, engaging written and visual content—has been critical to the program’s success. For the complex government projects we work on, it’s rare to find such a valuable mix of skills, deep expertise, and the ability to work in an agile, open, and highly effective way.

Our solution
Our strategic planning phase involved understanding the department’s requirements and aims for the published process, and analysing the underpinning technical information to understand the intention and rationale of the proposed process. We used visual planning techniques to map out the process and confirm our understanding. We also developed visuals to help brief internal stakeholders about the process.
Our writing and editing processes focused on identifying gaps in instruction and areas where users may need more information in order to complete the process. We cross-referenced existing climate related processes to ensure alignment with relevant standards and best-practice climate risk management.
We loved using visual planning in collaborative sessions to help our client work through problem-solving and framework-planning processes.
