Understanding the potential impacts of climate change on water resources is a critical part of the 2026 Basin Plan Review and future water planning. To fill this information gap, Biotext worked closely with the Murray–Darling Basin Authority and external researchers and stakeholders to develop the 2025 Sustainable Yields report for government and public audiences.
We drafted the summary report from more than 40 technical reports and source documents, developed unique ways to visualise climate projections data for a water management context, and managed the complete production workflow. The final summary is a critical update of the previous 2009 report, and forms part of a suite of documents that directly inform the 2026 Basin Plan Review.

Our solution
Our analysis and planning phase involved in-depth collaboration with the client to understand the drivers and intended outcomes of the report, and analysis of more than 40 technical reports and source documents to identify themes and concepts. We established a workflow with clear roles and timeframes to support collaboration with the client’s team and external researchers and stakeholders.
During our writing and editing phase, we summarised the key messages of the source material in line with the aim and scope of the report. We proposed a clear structure for the report to build the audience’s understanding of key concepts, and developed text and visual content through iterative rounds. Our process incorporated thorough reviews by the client and technical experts to ensure information was presented accurately.
Our infographics phase identified the key concepts that audiences needed to understand, and designed graphics to establish this understanding early in the report. We developed a unique data visualisation approach to communicate multifaceted climate projections. This allowed audiences to compare changes over time, between geographic regions, and related variables – all in a single-page infographic.
The final design and layout combined text, infographics and photographs in a client-branded PDF. Our process included proofreading of text, infographics and layout to ensure all elements flowed logically, complemented each other and were free from errors. Producing the final web-accessible PDF included writing alt-text for all infographics, checking heading levels and linked cross-references, and tagging reading order.
