Clearly communicating scientific research findings is essential to inform decision makers and advocate for change. We helped early career researchers from the National Environmental Science Program (NESP) develop the skills to turn complex information and data into clear, engaging infographics.

Good infographics do more than make information look appealing. They help people quickly grasp important messages, understand data and engage with information that might otherwise be difficult to interpret.
We used our expertise in visual communication of scientific and complex information to develop a tailored training package for NESP researchers. The package combined a webinar with a practical in-house workshop, helping participants explore how infographics could strengthen their briefs, reports, papers and posters.
The training combined visual communication principles with practical design techniques. The focus was on making thoughtful design decisions rather than simply creating attractive graphics. Participants learned how to transform research findings into visuals suited to different audiences and purposes.
We guided participants through the infographic development process, helping them to:
- identify their audience and key messages
- understand their data and choose the most effective way to present it
- use colour, typography and accessible design principles to make visuals clearer
- develop infographic concepts and design graphics using familiar software and tools.
Participants received take-home resources with tips and techniques they could apply to future communication projects.
Their feedback highlighted both the practical value of the training and the engaging workshop experience.
