Equipping governments, businesses and communities with knowledge about climate change is the first step to effective adaptation. Since 2021, Biotext has worked with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to create clear, user-centred content for the AdaptNSW website.

The website provides information on the impacts of climate change, projected climate data for NSW regions, and climate change research and reports. We analysed technical research to identify key messages and tailored content to suit different audiences with varying levels of climate knowledge.

Our solution

Our content planning phase involved understanding the needs and preferences of the website’s users through the website’s existing content strategy. We reviewed the proposed information architecture for the website and made recommendations to better support user experiences, based on our understanding of climate topics and best-practice content principles.

Our writing and editing processes focused on crafting narratives and layering information to gradually build understanding of complex topics. Our collaborative approach and expertise in science communication allowed us to quickly identify and fill gaps in the content. We also provided fact checking and linked statements to trusted sources.

One of our favourite aspects of this work is making complex information readable and relatable for everyday audiences, to support the shift to a more sustainable and resilient future.
