Regular, up-to-date data on the status of Australia’s fisheries are needed to inform government decisions about how fisheries are managed. These data are collected and published by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES). Since 2007, Biotext has worked with the ABARES team to ensure their annual fisheries status reports provide clear, error-free information to support decision making.
In 2023, we advised on the transition from a single 440-page designed PDF report to publishing individual chapters in Word and PDF. This improved the workflow for the team, making the report easier to update and more accessible to users.
Our role
- Technical editing
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Accessibility and findability
Our solution
We established a rolling workflow with the ABARES team to review and finalise content as the latest information is supplied. We manage the production workflow and client involvement for quality assurance, with each chapter moving through a tried and tested process to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Our technical review process pays close attention to the statistics and data tables presented in the reports. We cross-check statements and statistics with data tables to ensure accuracy and alignment. To help the team meet web accessibility requirements, we provide advice to improve how multilayered data are displayed in tables and text.
Outcomes
- Accessible Word documents ready for web upload and PDF conversion.
